Vancouver’s fifth traffic fatality took the life of a 39-year-old man and seriously injured his female passenger Tuesday morning.

The motorcycle, travelling eastbound on East Hastings Street, struck a bus headed north on Columbia Street, Vancouver Police Department (VPD) detailed in a statement.

It was around 5:25 a.m. that the crash snarled early morning traffic in the area of Gastown.

Emergency responders tended to both of the victims on the scene. The sole survivor, a female passenger, currently remains in hospital.

The bus, and passengers on board, were unharmed in the collision.

Police say the bus driver is cooperating with an ongoing investigation into the fatal crash.

Motorists with dashcam footage from the area at the time of the collision, or witnesses, are asked to contact VPD investigators at 604-717-3012.
