While police say they have made an arrest related to the alleged assault of a dog walker, an investigation into the incident is ongoing and no charges have been laid.

Lisa Adams said she was attacked on Jan. 23 after a couple became angry in an off-leash dog area near McCartney Creek Park in North Vancouver. A video taken by Adams, showing a man walking towards her multiple times and shoving her during a verbal altercation, was shared widely online.

Adams said the attack was unprovoked, and that the man pinned her down and punched her repeatedly, leaving her with bruises and a new fear of walking down local trails alone.

North Vancouver RCMP said officers responded to the initial incident after a woman reported she was assaulted by an unknown male while walking her clients’ dogs.

In the days following that report, a suspect identified himself to police and co-operated with the investigation, RCMP said in a statement.

On Feb. 11, that suspect was arrested for assault and subsequently released on conditions that include no contact with the victim and not to be in the trail area where the incident occurred, Const. Mansoor Sahak said.

“While we have made an arrest, charges have not yet been laid,” he added.

The investigation is continuing and Sahak is asking any witnesses who haven’t already spoken with police to contact investigators.

The suspect has provided his version of the story, but Sahak said details of that account aren’t being shared as police don’t want to jeopardize the investigation.

RCMP are in the process of submitting a report to Crown council, he said.

People with further information about the incident can call North Vancouver RCMP’s non-emergency line at 604-985-1311, referencing file # 23-1489.
