Crows are sometimes considered pests, annoyances, or creepy.

But many in Vancouver, it appears, are fans of the black birds.

V.I.A. spoke to a local researcher this spring on the relationship between Vancouverites and crows. In her survey she found many people like crows, even befriending them to some extent.

So V.I.A. ran a reader poll.

Both readers based in the city and overall readership like crows, it seems, with more than half having very or generally positive opinions of the birds.

And the leading opinion overall was very positive, with around 38 per cent of readers.

On the flip side, only around a fifth of readership have any negative feelings towards crows.

For the record, Anna's hummingbird is Vancouver's official bird.

Vancouver Is Awesome polled 1,785 readers and asked the question: What do you think of crows?

The poll ran from 5/25/2025 to 6/14/2025. Of the 1,785 votes, we can determine that 686 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Very positive 37.76% local, 38.32% total
Generally positive 26.53% local, 25.10% total
Meh/neutral 13.41% local, 15.35% total
Negative 11.81% local, 11.71% total
Very negative 10.50% local, 9.52% total

Results are based on an online study of adult Vancouver Is Awesome readers that are located in Vancouver. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 2.32%, 19 times out of 20.
