Anyone who visited Scandinave Spa on August 8 may have been exposed to COVID-19.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) notified the spa on Aug.18 that guests who attended the spa on August 8 could have been in contact with one patron who had tested positive for COVID-19. The notification was shared with guests immediately.

“As stated in the VCH notification, guests who visited that day only have the potential to have been exposed to COVID-19 and at this time the spa is not aware of any subsequent infections related to the patron who visited that day,” said spa spokesperson Michelle Leroux in an email.

Scandinave Spa has had a full COVID-19 assessment conducted in person by VCH in response to this exposure by the guest, and the ongoing safety protocols meet all of VCH’s standards, she said.

“Scandinave Spa Whistler’s safety protocols are thoughtfully designed and consistently implemented and the ‘above and beyond’ approach to keeping guests and employees safe was commended by VCH,” said Leroux.

COVID-19 is spread by respiratory droplets when a person coughs or sneezes. It may also be spread by touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose or eyes before washing your hands.

Common symptoms include fever/chills, cough, sore throat, loss of taste and smell, diarrhea,
nausea and vomiting, headache, fatigue, muscle aches, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing.

Less common ones are dizziness, abdominal pain, red runny eyes, rash, confusion, discoloration of the fingers or toes.

In a letter to those exposed VCH said exposure does not mean you are sick with COVID-19. “If you do not have any symptoms right now, you should self-monitor for new-onset of gastrointestinal or respiratory illness for 14 days from the last date of contact with the sick person (Aug 8). If you do not have any symptoms, testing is not recommended because it is not accurate or useful.

“If you believe you have, or if you develop, symptoms consistent with COVID-19, please self-isolate for 10 days from onset of your symptoms and call us at 604-983-6714 to arrange for testing.”
