The provincial government is considering legislation that would add sharper teeth to child and spousal support enforcement.
If the proposed amendments pass, parents who’ve fallen behind on their child payments can have their driver’s licences stripped away.
ICBC would be allowed to cancel licences of those who have more than $3,000 in arrears.
Also being considered is a motion that would streamline the amount of child or spousal support information needed to be filed in the Land Titles Registry.
The proposed legislation would replace a requirement to file the entirety of an order or agreement related to child or spousal support in the registry.
Only “pertinent information” would need to be filed, the province says.
