Someone drove through this popular Vancouver park in the afternoon

"There was clearly no intention of stopping nor would it even have been possible to stop if someone (including the little kids playing!) had stepped in front."

Vancouver Police are investigating after a car drove through a city park Monday afternoon.

In an email to Vancouver Is Awesome, VPD Spokesperson Sergeant Aaron Roed writes that police responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls for a vehicle that had driven through Dude Chilling Park yesterday afternoon.

"This is in relation to an impaired driving investigation with one person who has been arrested. The vehicle generated multiple calls to eComm and notifying the VPD," says Roed.

"Luckily, nobody was hit or injured during this dangerous incident, but people did the right thing in contacting the VPD."

In a Reddit post, user u/teknokraczy writes that they were at Dude Chilling Park at the time of the incident and were almost struck by what they say was a "white modern SUV."

"A car just ripped through the park (my estimate, 2:50 p.m.) on the main north south ped/bike path. I would estimate [they were going] at least 70 km/h, maybe 80 km/h," they write. "There was clearly no intention of stopping nor would it even have been possible to stop if someone (including the little kids playing!) had stepped in front."

U/teknokraczy notes that police were only about 30 seconds behind the action, and that they could hear a helicopter coming. They add that everyone helped point police in the right direction.

"Sorry if this is scattered, I was literally 30 seconds from pretty much guaranteed death and my heart is going a million miles a minute," they write.

Roed adds that a police investigation is ongoing.
