A special weather statement has been issued for Vancouver as snow is expected tomorrow.

Drivers, and potentially snow shovellers, should be on alert Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Up to 5 cm of snow has been forecast by Environment Canada, which today issued a special weather statement cautioning Metro Vancouver residents.

"Freezing levels will initially be near sea level Wednesday morning and as a result precipitation will start as snow," states the federal agency. "Snowfall accumulations of 2 to 5 cm are forecast before warmer air pushes in late Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night allowing the snow to change to rain."

The statement is in effect for all of Metro Vancouver, as well as the Fraser Valley, Sunshine Coast and Greater Victoria. Higher elevations in those areas may see more snowfall accumulation, while areas lower and closer to the coast will see less.

Further east the snow is likely to last longer.

"Higher accumulations are also possible through the Central and Eastern Fraser Valley, including Chilliwack and Hope, where snow may persist into Thursday morning," notes Environment Canada.

They add that drivers should adjust their driving as the snow and precipitation will affect road conditions.
