Don't forget your umbrella this weekend.

Environment Canada calls for plenty of rain this weekend in Vancouver as well as a risk of thunderstorms on Saturday.

In a weather alert issued Wednesday evening, the national weather department stated that "A moist Pacific frontal system will approach the south coast on Friday bringing heavy rain to the North Shore and Howe Sound regions."

The alert notes that the heavy rain will begin early Friday morning and continue through Friday night. In total, 50 to 70 mm of rainfall are expected by Saturday morning.

The forecast is also calling for some wind this evening.

Sunday is also expected to see rain, but Monday's forecast calls for a respite from the dreary weather with a mix of sun and cloud. However, the dry spell won't last long, as Tuesday's forecast calls for rain that is expected to continue through Wednesday and into Thursday.

As La Niña kicks into high gear in the late fall and early winter, the Weather Network predicts Western Canada will have an early to start this year's ski season.

For the winter season, the weather forecasting channel writes that "La Niña winters tend to be colder and snowier across Western Canada" and it looks like there will be that typical pattern again this winter. For B.C. and a large part of the Prairies, colder than normal temperatures with an abundance of snow for the ski areas are expected.
