Surrey RCMP have arrested a man in connection with the serious assault that took place at a Surrey secondary school earlier today.
At 8:25 a.m. on March 13, Surrey RCMP and the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team responded to a report of a serious assault with a weapon on a member of school staff at LA Matheson Secondary School. The injured employee was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.
RCMP report that a 19-year-old male was arrested in Vancouver at approximately 4 p.m. and is now in custody; he is a resident of Surrey.
No charges have been laid at this time.
Investigators believe that the incident was targeted. However, they add that the suspect is not a student nor is he a former student of LA Matheson Secondary School.
In order to complete a security sweep, RCMP locked down the school earlier today. The lockdown was lifted after the sweep but classes were cancelled for the remainder of the day.
Surrey RCMP add that no further updates related to this investigation are expected today.
