'The impact knocked him out': Vancouver driver crashes into parkade support beam

"I think it is safe to say the driver exceeded the speed limit."

A driver was "knocked out" after he crashed into a support beam in the underground parkade at the Vancouver Public Library.

The Vancouver Police Department's (VPD) Traffic Section shared a few images of the aftermath of the collision on Twitter. They show how the front of the vehicle was completely smashed from crashing into the beam.

"I think it is safe to say the driver exceeded the speed limit," the VPD quipped in the tweet, adding that the driver was the "only occupant in the vehicle and the impact knocked him out."

In a comment below the original tweet, the VPD said the driver was "transported to hospital with neck pain."

In June 2022, the VPD shared an image of a car that had crashed into a pole in Downtown Vancouver. VPD Sgt. Steve Addison commented that particular incident was "completely 100 per cent avoidable."

Distracted drivers are also involved in multiple collisions across the city. In December 2022, a Vancouver driver who was "adjusting his shoe" crashed into a tree and injured two passengers in the car.
