Firefighters tackle flames on 18th floor of Vancouver high-rise

West End blaze one of two residential fires in the city in under 12 hours

Vancouver firefighters tackled a blaze at a residential detached home and a balcony fire on the 18th floor of a high rise building.

Vancouver firefighters responded to two residential fires within the last 12 hours. 

The first fire broke out in the evening at a detached home and a second started in the early morning at a high-rise building, says Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) Public Information Officer Matthew Trudeau.

Firefighters got a call at 7 p.m. Monday night (July 31) for a fire within the 1300 blockof  East 12th Avenue. 

Crews of 14 firetrucks arrived to heavy smoke coming out of a two-and-a-half-storey home. Everyone had evacuated the building at the time and no injuries were reported. 

Two-alarm balcony fire in West End

Crews were called to a two-alarm fire at 12:51 a.m. Tuesday morning on the balcony of an apartment on the 18th floor of a building on the 1800 block of Comox Street.

The flames didn't spread inside the apartment but two units were damaged.

No injuries were reported.
