A massive fire resulted in a massive power outage in Vancouver on July 27, leaving thousands of people in the dark.

Thousands of Vancouverites are without power following a massive fire in East Vancouver Thursday, July 27 night.

BC Hydro's outage map shows that 2,199 people are without power in the area, citing a fire near the Kingsgate Mall as the reason for the outage. Crews are currently on site and the power has been off since 8:33 p.m.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) responded to a third-alarm structure fire in the 400 block of East 10th Avenue near Guelph Street just after 8:20 p.m. and crews shut the power down in the area due to safety concerns with the electrical wiring.

Deputy Chief of Operations Trevor Connelly told V.I.A. that the power will remain off as crews battle the blaze. The roof has collapsed in the building, preventing firefighters from entering the source of the fire in a unit on the top floor of the three-story building.
