Vancouver police say a driver has been issued a hefty fine after they were clocked speeding well over twice the posted limit over the long weekend.
The Vancouver Police Department's (VPD) Traffic Unit shared a post on its Twitter account that includes a picture of a vehicle that it pulled over for excessive speeding on Easter Sunday (April 9) night in the 4200 block of SW Marine Drive.
The photo of the car shows a green "N" sign on the back, indicating that a novice driver was behind the wheel of the grey Dodge.
The VPD states that they were travelling a whopping 124 km/h in a 50 km zone, which is considered excessive speeding. In another image, the violation ticket notes that a driver is excessively speeding if they are travelling 60 km/h above the posted limit and the penalty comes with a $483 fine.
"Expensive lesson," quipped the VPD in its post, advising the lead foot driver to "raise your right foot."
In a comment below the Twitter post, a Vancouverite asked, "Did he have a death wish?"
Police can also immediately impound a vehicle for seven days if the driver was travelling upwards of 40 km per hour above the limit, according to ICBC.
Repeat offenders may have their vehicles impounded for 30 or 60 days. Drivers must also pay the vehicle towing and storage fees to get their vehicles back.
