There were two extra excited fans in the stands at Super Bowl LVI this year and it wasn't just because of the epic halftime show.

Vancouver resident Joanne Varelas and her daughter flew to California to watch the game in celebration of Varelas's $75,000 BC/49 lotto win on February 2, 2022.

After discovering that she had matched 5 of the 6+ numbers at a Tsawwassen Shell station, the first thing Varelas did was rush home to share the amazing news with her daughter. “I couldn’t believe it when I saw the amount, so I ran out of the store and drove home to tell my daughter,” she recalls.

The two of them were still in shock and not entirely convinced that the total was correct so they had to go out again and double check. “My daughter and I went to a Shoppers Drug Mart to check it and sure enough it was the amount,” she says.

The mother-daughter duo have a lot more they can do with the money after their girls' trip but for now, Varelas says she's “thankful, excited and a bit overwhelmed” to be a lottery winner.
