Vancouver locals started a fundraiser for the Lamb-Evesque family after an early morning fire left 10 families displaced for 12-18 months.

An early morning fire in Vancouver's Strathcona neighbourhood last month left 10 people displaced.

The blaze took place in a house at 743 Keefer St around 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 25 and escalated to a three-alarm fire, requiring 44 firefighters and 12 apparatus to put it out.

A week following the incident, residents of the neighbourhood started a fundraiser to help one of the families impacted by the fire.

Theo Lamb and Fred Peci-Evesque woke up from the sound of propane tanks exploding at the time of the fire. They were able to safely run out of the house with their three kids and dog just as the fire was spreading up the side of the house.

"The Lamb-Evesque family [have] lost most of their possessions and [have] been displaced from their home," reads the fundraiser.

Families impacted by the fire will have to wait between 12 and 18 months until they can return home.

Though the Lamb-Evesque family's insurance will cover the first six months of interim accommodation, the community is coming together to support the family through the remaining months.

"We are inviting interested friends, family, and community to donate to offset these costs," the fundraiser says.

The fundraiser exceeded its goal of $10,000 within a day and currently stands at nearly $14,000 raised.
