A Vancouver woman plans to travel the world after winning half a million from the Lotto Max.

Juliet Ligason was shopping in Burnaby when she checked her ticket and discovered she had won the $500,000 Extra prize from the April 9 draw.

“I was at Superstore in Metrotown and I was not wearing my reading glasses,” recalled Ligason.

“I thought it was only $5 – enough for a coffee. When the retailer told me I won, I asked ‘Are you sure?’”

Ligason purchased the winning ticket in Vancouver at the London Drugs on Victoria Drive and 41st Avenue.

The elated local plans to use her winnings to fulfill her dream of travelling the world. While she was excited to share the news with her family, her grandchildren were confused about what happened.

“I told my grandchildren, but they did not understand. The oldest is only six!” she said.

Ligason plans to celebrate with her family over a nice dinner.

When asked how it felt to win the Extra prize, she said she was "very happy, appreciative and thankful," describing it as "a blessing in my life.”
