Police were busy down in English Bay this weekend.

Thousands were gathered on the beaches along English Bay says the Vancouver Police Department's (VPD) Stgt. Steve Addison in an email to Vancouver Is Awesome. Officers patrolled the area, watching for open alcohol, smoking and those not social distancing.

"For the most part people were respectful of each other, however there were a few incidents that required police intervention," he writes. "VPD officers broke up a fight on Friday night and arrested two people for breach of peace. Last night our officers had bottles thrown at them while they conducted patrols."

The beaches close at 10 p.m.; subsequently, police patrolled the waterfront to tell people to leave the area, assisted by air and marine units, he adds. Some caught the activity on camera.

English Bay was the site of dance parties on weekends in April and was frequented by anti-maskers.
