A woman allegedly ran in front of a car and then started hitting the vehicle before punching the driver repeatedly, according to Vancouver police.

On Saturday (Jan. 8) afternoon, a man was driving near Vancouver General Hospital and had to slam on his breaks to avoid hitting a pedestrian who ran in front of his vehicle.

After he stopped, the woman allegedly "became enraged" and started hitting the car and then punched the man multiple times. Police say she "broke his glasses" and "sprayed an unknown substance in his face."

The 36-year-old victim called police but the suspect fled before police arrived. The suspect is a Black woman in her forties, with long black dreadlocks and black clothes.

The incident is one of several that police are investigating that kept officers stretched to all corners of the city this weekend.

"From the downtown core to the South Slope, and from East Van to the west side, VPD officers were called on to investigate multiple violent crimes," says VPD Sgt. Steve Addison.

"These included commercial robberies, stranger assaults, road rages, and several stabbings."
