A recent article in O, The Oprah Magazine named the best trips to take during the winter from across the globe.

Of course, the ratings seem fairly subjective, as they seem to be based primarily on opinion, but some of them seem a little bit more unusual than others.

Some of the choices are fairly expected winter picks for people who live in North America. Costa Rica, for instance, offers beautiful, lush jungles as well as myriad activities and it is only a short flight away. Similarly, Miami Beach offers an amazing oceanside party lifestyle as well as a number of fine eateries and diverse shopping experiences.

And, while winter destinations don't need to have tropical temperatures to be enjoyable, there were a few odd selections included in the roundup. For example, Toronto, the sole Canadian choice, seems like a strange pick. With that being said, there are a number of great things to do during the winter in Toronto - it is the country's largest city - and it has its own unique charm. Nevertheless, it doesn't present some of the awe-inspiring experiences you might find venturing outside of the city.

Vancouver is a great Canadian choice for people who aren't fans of the cold and still want to have a great winter vacation. What's more, they can still partake in some incredible skiing or snowboarding at Whistler Blackcomb, which ranks among the best ski resorts in the world. There are also a number of other incredible activities for tourists to enjoy in the city during the colder months, making it a great travel option.
