LOCATION: Hope, B.C.

When you have a family, getting away often means finding a place or activity that is child friendly. This weekend I decided to take my wife and daughter along on my UNPLUGGED photo shoot and as a a result the location had to involve a short, easy hike with an exciting pay-off at the end for my daughter. Flood Falls just outside of Hope, B.C. met that criteria.

The trail that leads to Flood Falls is accessible from two locations both of which are located along Flood-Hope Road.

Looking North across Highway 1 from the trailhead.

The woods leading back to the falls were filled with all kinds of life from mushrooms to snails, slugs and insects. My daughter got a kick out of finding the next bit of flora or fauna.

Like so many B.C. forests, this one was blanketed in lush green moss and ferns.

No more than a 20 minute hike in and we arrived at Flood Falls.

The falls were beautiful and surrounded by easily accessible locations for viewing. A nice outcropping of rocks to the left made a perfect spot to chill out and have lunch. Oh, and in case you are concerned, this trail is maintained by locals not the Province and therefore does not have any restrictions on dogs.

All in all Flood Falls made for a perfect family excursion. It's ease of access had us in and out in under an hour which allowed us to spend the rest of the afternoon at Harrison Hot Springs.

If you have any suggestions for an upcoming UNPLUGGED please feel free to drop me a comment below or email me at [email protected]. Also, feel free to share your thoughts on this feature or anything else (within reason and sticking to the VIA commenting policy of course).

Until next time…Happy Trails!
