Photos: French country-style manor on B.C. island selling for $12M

It's been relisted for the same price as it was in 2022.

While the charm of living in a manor in the French countryside is reserved for people living in the French countryside, this house for sale on Salt Spring Island comes close.

Dubbed Zauberberg (translated from German, that means "magic mountain"), the huge house and 71-acre property sit on the side of Salt Spring's Mount Maxwell. It was recently relisted for $11.975 million. That's the second time it's been listed for that price; the first time was in 2022.

Currently used by Dr. Rigobert Kefferputz as the base for his naturopathic medicine practice, the property offers expansive views of the island, Salish Sea, and neighbouring islands, along with a forest retreat.

The main house itself is impressive, with seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and a variety of other living spaces, including a solarium.

Outside the main residence, there are gardens and an orchard, adding to the French feel. However, down a path into a very Pacific coast forest, there's a sauna and cabana set up, overlooking mountainside ponds.

There's also an equestrian setup with horse stables and paddocks.

The infrastructure for the property also gives it a level of independence, with a backup generator and a 2,000-gallon cistern.

The property is located just south of the town of Ganges, about 15 minutes by car.
