Join us for the Vancouver Heritage Foundation for our 86th Places That Matter plaque presentation at the Francophone Village/Le Village Francophone Saturday, September 30th. 12:30pm at Saint-Sacrement Church, 3040 Heather St (at 15th Ave). The event is free and all are welcome to attend.
VHF's Places That Matter plaque project has been raising awareness and celebrating local history since 2011. We have a new Community History Resource website dedicated to all 125 Places That Matter and we continue to present and install our blue oval plaques around the city. We're pleased to be able to celebrate plaque #86 for The Francophone Village/Le Village Francophone this Saturday, September 30th. You may know Vancouver's French Quarter today as the area of 7th Avenue west of Granville (Maison de la Francophonie, Salade des Fruits, etc) but do you know where it flourished in the 1950s?
Join us for a free presentation and reception at Saint-Sacrement Church, 3040 Heather Street, Saturday September 30th at 12:30pm. You will hear from Historian Maurice Guibord (also leading a walking tour that morning about the Francophone Village), Father Miguel of Saint-Sacrement Church, and pioneers from the area. There will be displays by the Société historique francophone de la Colombie-Britannique (SHFCB), two local Co-ops, Ecole Saint-Sacrement and Saint-Sacrement church.
