Central City is the destination for shopping, community events and more in Surrey’s city centre.

Summer is about making ordinary days feel special, and with a roster of free unique events and exciting activities lined up at Surrey’s vibrant Central City, the Plaza has become a lively hub buzzing with family-friendly local live music, fitness fun, vendors, and imagination-fuelled offerings for all ages. It's the kind of community where strangers strike up conversations and every event feels like a small festival.

Plus, you can now enter for a chance to win a $500 Central City gift card, with a winner drawn on Aug. 6!

"For the longest time, Central City has only been recognized as the spot to get your passport renewed because we're widely known for the Canadian passport office," says Vivian Chong, marketing and community relations manager, Central City. "But we're also a destination for everyone to have lots of cool experiences, without having to travel to downtown Vancouver for events."

Summerween

July 26, 11 a.m.–4 p.m., Central City Plaza and throughout the mall

Happy Halloween in July!

It's a ghoulish day with a twist, where costumes and candy make for a summertime spookfest on the Plaza. Kids will come dressed in their favourite costume ready for trick-or-treating. Get goodies from outside booths and follow the trick-or-treating map of participating retailers in the mall.

An afternoon of frights and delights include live music from Las Divas Trio (12 p.m.-2 p.m.), lawn games (such as ping pong and toppling towers), face painting (sponsored by Downtown Surrey BIA) and more. Don't miss the Central City booth with a selfie station, and look out for roaming characters like Princess Jasmine and Aladdin, Rapunzel and Spider-Man. Cool down with a complimentary handmade popsicle from Johnny’s Pops, while supplies last.

Fitness Fiesta on the Plaza

Aug. 2, 6, 16, 20, 30; Alternating Saturdays and Wednesdays with 1-hour to 45-minute sessions, 12–1 p.m., Central City Plaza

Get your heart beating, your blood pumping and feel the energy with Curtis Health and their motivating sessions of fun fresh workouts that inspire fitness, wellness and healthy bodies.

Move, stretch and dance! Participate in Zumba (Aug. 2 & 20), Mommy & Me (Aug. 6 & 30) and yoga (Aug. 16). Come out and try something new; no experience necessary.

Hook on a Book

Aug. 23, 12–4 p.m. Central City Plaza

It's a literary lovefest! Bring your favourite read to this inviting book party picnic and enjoy your pages under the sun, with an accompaniment of soft background music. Eat lunch on any of the benches, or spread your blanket out on one of the patches of turf, a green space setting to complete the idyllic ambiance.

If you don't have a book on hand and you're looking for the newest title or bestseller, check out Black Bond Books in the mall, the sponsor for the outdoor event, who are also providing stories in a children's reading circle; it's a turf-filled space, too, complete with picket fences.

Don't miss all the excitement this summer! Grab your friends, come down with your family or take a break from the office to enjoy family-friendly fun and chill with the good vibes at Central City.
