The Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC) is on a mission to empower women in skilled trades professions across Canada, and here in B.C., they’ve done so through a fun and exciting local partnership.
The female apprentices of EJTC have partnered with Dead Frog Brewery, an award-winning B.C. craft brewery born and raised in the Fraser Valley, to brew a special and unique batch made by local women in trades.
This collaboration came to fruition through the EJTC team’s efforts to engage their female apprentices during International Women’s Month. Five current and former apprentices from EJTC’s programs took part in the brewing process, from start (milling) to finish (distribution).
This project is part of EJTC’s goal to highlight women in trades and give them an equal platform and equal opportunities in the field.
Wanting to foster an inclusive and respectful space where all are welcome, the committee believes that diversity brings a multitude value and benefits to the trades industry.
Women are needed to make up the skills shortage in B.C. Over the past year, EJTC has seen female enrollment for their apprenticeship double from 6% to 12%, and their goal is to increase that number even further by seeing women reach a 20 percent share in their apprenticeship program.
This exclusive and limited-edition brew will be offered at Dead Frog’s tasting room in Langley until supplies last. This local partnership is a great way to support both local businesses and local women in trades — all while enjoying a brilliantly brewed pint of beer!
