Competitive wages, guidance and stability. These are benefits that everyone hopes to achieve in their job or career. Despite this, professions closely associated with these benefits remain largely dominated by men, particularly when it comes to the trades.

In an effort to provide women with better careers that suit the needs of their lifestyles (above and beyond fair compensation), The Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC) is striving to achieve at least a 20% enrollment of women in its Entry Level Trades Training Program (ELTT). The program, which prepares participants for a career in the electrical trades will be hosting a Open House on November 16th at their new campus in Port Coquitlam.

This 15-week program aims to promote incredible employment opportunities for all people, including women and Indigenous peoples. The program includes classroom and workshop training in addition to 10 weeks of paid electrical experience, ensuring participants are equipped with skills, knowledge and confidence to make a mark in the industry.

If you never imagined yourself working in the trades, it’s important to note that this type of training has been historically under-marketed to women, leaving many to assume this career path isn’t even an option. That said, the EJTC is an industry leader in placing women in the trades, offering women hands-on training and paid apprenticeships that can fast-track their careers. The EJTC offers small class sizes, one-on-one support and the opportunity to work directly with B.C.’s leading contractors

EJTC’s upcoming Open House will showcase their new campus and offer guests the opportunity to learn about this program. Instructors and program admin will be on-site to provide information. No registration needed for event; just drop by and learn what the program is all about!
