Beat the winter blues with laughter this January, as local and international improvisers brawl it out for bragging rights and the title of best improviser (at least for this year) at Vancouver TheatreSports (VTS) annual improv festival, Throwdown.
Local improvisers will be split into four funny teams: Kendrick Lemario Kart, Nike Minaj, Apple Crumble & Fitch, and Fleetwood Mac & Cheese. They’ll get the LOLs rolling until January 22, when the international teams crash the competition and turn this into a literal battle of wits. Who among the local teams will be crowned funniest of all? You’ll have to come see more than one show to find out.
The competition really heats up when the international teams land. VTS is inviting some fearlessly funny teams, so prepare to actually bust a gut from all the laughing. Reigning champions, SAK Comedy Club, from Orlando return to keep everyone on their toes. Also joining the VTS stage again is Curious Comedy Theatre from Portland, and Ryan Stiles’ Theatre, Upfront Theatre from Bellingham (were you there last year when Ryan made a surprise appearance – and you never know when he will again, just sayin’.) Last, but not least, On the Spot Improv from Honolulu will be there to bring the aloha-ha!
With shows running until January 27 and tickets starting at just $10.75 – there’s no way you can pass up this chance to perk up your psyche. So, brave the inevitable rain, grab a pal, and come on down to the Improv Centre on Granville Island.
Also, if you like winning, be sure to enter the contest below!
To enter for a chance to win two tickets to the 7:30 p.m. show on January 22 (the very first night that the local and international teams play), you must do at least one of the following:
