GET OUT INTO NATURE

One of the most beautiful times of the year to explore the outdoors in Vernon is during the autumn months, when the leaves change colours and the temperature is crisp yet comfortable.

Lace up your runners and hike or walk along the hiking trails around Vernon in all of their fall splendour with the help of this handy interactive trail map. The Okanagan Rail Trail with its spectacular lakefront route is not to be missed.

For a cycling experience to remember, tackle any of the numerous mountain bike trails around Vernon, including some terrific single-track trails at Predator Ridge and Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park

For something more chill on a cool day, Vernon’s parks and beaches are the perfect place to spend a fall afternoon. Nothing beats the views of Kalamalka Lake paired with a good book, a picnic basket, or your camera. And if you’d like to get out on the water, grab a SUP, kayak, or board rental from Kalavida Surf Shop or Ed’s Mobile Kayak Rental and be one with the local lakes.

ENJOY THE FALL HARVEST

Round up your family and friends and enjoy the bounty of the autumn harvest and other very fall activities that are in abundance in Vernon!

Pick out your Halloween pumpkin at the pumpkin patch at Davison Orchards, where they come ripe and carving-ready (or pie-ready) in a variety of sizes, shapes, weights, and colours. For a closer look at how food is grown on the farm, hop aboard the Johnny Popper train for an orchard tour of the apple trees, tomatoes, peppers, and other produce by the season.

For locally-sourced and freshly-prepared goods and treats to take home, the outdoor Vernon Farmers’ Market at Kal Tire Place runs until the end of October.

Just a few minutes north of the city, you can “get lost” in the family-friendly corn maze at Historic O’Keefe Ranch, where you can also hang out with the friendly goats, get a picture with the resident donkey, take a wagon ride tour, or toast a s’more or two by the bonfires. Come after dark as the corn maze turns into the spooktacular Field of Screams!

DRINK AND BE MERRY

There are lots of local libations to sip on in and around Vernon, with a wide selection of locally-crafted brews, wines, and spirits to choose from.

At the neighbourhood craft brewery Marten Brew Pub, honour the hard work and dedication of our province’s health care workers with a pint of Bonnie Henry Blond Ale, try the tangy, on-tap Kombucha, or expand your options with a flight of craft beer. Okanagan Spirits, B.C.’s original craft distillery, offers a range of spirits, including whiskies, vodkas and gins, to suit your personal tasting preferences.

Are wine tours more your style? Take an afternoon to explore the eight Lake Country wineries that make up the Scenic Sip Wine Trail between Vernon and Kelowna. Or, to get some flavours on foot, embark on the Vernon Tasting Trail to indulge in your love of food AND drink.
