Canadians have to pay more to visit some Italian attractions in 2023. Here's why

But there is also a picturesque Italian region you can visit for free.

Vancouver locals travelling to Rome, Venice, and Florence in Italy in 2023 may pay more at the Uffizi Gallery, Pompeii, and the Pantheon.

While Canadian travellers may visit a picturesque region of Italy for free until May, some of the country's most popular tourist attractions will cost a little bit more this year.

One of Europe's oldest museums, the Uffizi Gallery located in Florence, houses Sandro Botticelli's masterpiece 'The Birth of Venus' and welcomes thousands of art lovers annually.

But entrance fees will be increasing in the spring, with the gallery citing rising energy and construction costs.

As of March 1, during the high season until Nov. 30, guests must pay €$25 (roughly C$36.12), up from the current price of €$20 (C$28.89). There will be a €$6 discount for early guests who visit the Gallery between 8:15 a.m. and 8:55 a.m., according to the gallery's website.

Italian Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano has also announced that American families should be able to pay higher entrance fees at the county's major attractions, including places like Pompeii and the Pantheon, according to Forbes.

Looking for a cheap flight to Italy?

Vancouver flights aren't exactly cheap to any Italian cities, with return airfare to big cities, such as Rome, Florence, and Venice, starting around $1,000, according to Google Flights price calendar.

Once travellers are in the country, however, they can save money by purchasing multi-stop train passes or a Eurail pass, particularly if they plan to visit multiple countries.
