Construction to soon begin on new Squamish boutique hotel

The 48-unit Beldi hotel will draw inspiration from classic mountain huts of the Alps, says local behind the project.

Squamish Airhouse’s owner will soon be marking the start of his new project, called Beldi — a facility that was originally billed as a micro or pod hotel.

In a news release, the project's proponent, Rodney Wilson, announced that work would soon begin on constructing the 48-unit building in downtown Squamish.

“Beldi will be the first high-end, lifestyle property in Squamish, and we are honoured to be a part of the area’s transformation, offering a new hub for modern travellers looking for adventure but also convenience,” said Wilson, who has been a Squamish resident since 2003.

The release described Beldi as a boutique hotel offering a ground-floor restaurant and roof-top lounge area that will serve as both a co-working space by day, and a cocktail bar by night.

“Originally conceived as a micro-hotel, the property will draw inspiration from Rifugi, the classic mountain huts of the Alps that offer travellers affordable accommodations with a focus on community and adventure,” reads the release. “These retreats were designed as a home base for hikers, climbers, and skiers who would come together at night to share stories of their day over food and drink.”

The announcement also noted the hotel concept and design would be a collaboration between HunterOffice, an architectural firm and urban infill specialist based in Squamish, and Ste. Marie Studio,  a commercial interior design studio and creative consultancy based in Vancouver.

Life House will serve as a full-service management partner, overseeing operations, including revenue and marketing. They currently operate over 60 hotels across North America.

Last summer, the District of Squamish granted the development permit to numbered company 1237946 B.C. LTD., which has since changed its name to Hang Eleven Properties Inc.

It authorized the building of the hotel downtown at 37773 Cleveland Avenue.
