Hot deal: You can fly direct from Vancouver to these 5 cities for $55 or less

Several options are available for travellers looking to save on their next trip.

Hot flight deals from Metro Vancouver haven't completely dried up, despite many Canucks opting out of transborder trips.

Travellers can find numerous round-trip options out of town starting for under $200 with direct flights.

However, those looking for one-way trips can find some for under $55. In some cases, they can book two one-way options, totalling under $100 or $150 together.

Have a look at the cheapest one-way flights across Canada departing from Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

Nanaimo

If you want to skip long ferry lines (and possible cancellations), a flight from the Lower Mainland to Vancouver Island won't set you back an exorbitant amount.

For instance, a flight departing YVR to Nanaimo Airport (YCD) on Sept. 11 costs $41 through Trip.com or $56 directly through WestJet (see slide two).

Perhaps surprisingly, this price isn't exactly a deal (although it is as cheap as one). Travellers headed to the island can find tickets priced this low through the summer, although Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are cheaper.

Keep in mind that WestJet's lowest fare class, UltraBasic, doesn't include a carry-on bag.

Kelowna

Flights from YVR to Kelowna International Airport (YLW) work out to less than what you will pay for a flight to Vancouver Island.

A flight departing Vancouver on Sept. 3 costs $40 through BudgetAir and $55 directly through Air North (see slide four).

Travellers flying in Air North's lowest fare class get a free carry-on and a checked bag.

Travellers hoping to score the lowest-priced tickets will have to wait to travel in September. During the summer, prices are about double September's prices.

Edmonton

Edmonton is consistently one of the best deals out of YVR, particularly since it is one of the only routes costing under $50 outside of B.C.

For example, the flight departs Vancouver for Edmonton International Airport (YEG) on Sept. 3 and costs $40 directly through Flair Airlines (see slide five).

Prices are only slightly higher during July and August, starting at $45.

Flair charges customers for carry-on bags, but prices are lower when booked online and before check-in. A piece of carry-on luggage booked online is $29-$86 (depending on the route) and $49-$97 during check-in.

Winnipeg

Flights from Vancouver to Winnipeg are shockingly affordable, particularly for the amount of distance flown.

A flight on Oct. 15 from YVR to Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG) costs $55 with Flair Airlines (see slide six).

This price is considered "low" for economy or $27 cheaper than usual, according to Google Flights.

Looking through the travel dates, prices in the summer are nearly double to triple those in the fall, although you can score the low-price option in mid-September, too.

Calgary

Calgary is another low-cost option for travellers looking to fly outside of B.C.

A flight departing from YVR to Calgary International Airport (YYC) on Sept. 3 costs $50 directly through Flair Airlines (see slide seven).

This price is considered "typical" for the route, with nearly every day in September and October having tickets at this cost. However, summer prices (July and August) start about $5 higher ($55).

Flight prices may change quickly based on seat availability. If you want to secure a price, book the ticket right away (some airlines and travel suppliers allow you to hold seats, although you will need to confirm). Prices shown in this travel deal were available at the time of writing and may not be available when you look for them.
