Emily in Paris fantasies can be played out a little bit cheaper for Vancouverites departing on trips this spring and fall.
The shoulder season provides relief from soaring summer ticket prices to France, falling several hundred dollars on return trips.
Travellers can find some cheap one-way tickets with one to two stops between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) departing in May and later in September and October.
For instance, a flight departing Vancouver on Monday, Sept. 29, for Paris makes a stop in Kelowna for four hours and one in Calgary for just over two and costs $325 through third-party supplier BudgetAir. The ticket costs $350 if booked directly through WestJet in the airline's most restrictive fare class, UltraBasic. For international and domestic trips, the same rules apply to making changes and cancelling the ticket in this fare class. However, international trips allow one carry-on luggage while domestic flights do not (see slide two).
This price is considered "low" for economy or $366 cheaper than usual, according to Google Flights (see slide three).
Travellers preferring not to make two stops can opt for an itinerary that only includes one, which doesn't cost much more money. A different WestJet flight departing on the same day only includes one stop in Calgary for an hour and 15 minutes and costs $348 through FlightNetwork (see slide four).
Round-trip flights from Vancouver to Paris with Condor
Return trips to Paris are also a bargain thanks to Condor's low-cost and more convenient options.
Unlike other low-cost options, Condor's cheapest flights only involve one stop in the airline's hub city of Frankfurt, Germany.
For example, a flight departing Vancouver on Monday, Sept. 22 and returning from Paris on Monday, Oct. 6 costs $668 through FlightNetwork. The itinerary only includes one stop in Frankfurt on the outbound journey for an hour and 25 minutes and one on the return in Frankfurt for four hours and 15 minutes (see slide five).
Tickets booked directly through Condor cost $740.
This price is considered "low" for economy or $808 cheaper than usual, according to Google Flights (see slide six).
Flight prices may change quickly based on seat availability. If you want to secure a price, book the ticket right away (some airlines and travel suppliers allow you to hold seats, although you will need to confirm).
