Travellers are often inspired by the sights of a new country, so with aesthetics in mind, tour book company Rough Guides turned to their readers and social media followers to choose this year's Most Beautiful Countries in the World. And our own "true north strong and free" made quite the showing: Canada was named the second-most beautiful country in the world.
Here's what Rough Guides had to say about our eye-catching country:
"In a close call for second place is Canada: home of lumberjacks, beavers and maple syrup (if you believe everything you read). Of course, there’s much more on offer in Canada, not least its mixture of raw beauty and majestic landscapes. The Yukon Territory is a place of great wilderness, while B.C. mountains draw skiers and snowboarders in their thousands."
Also citing the Instagram-appeal of Lake Louise, and the big city vibes of Toronto and Montreal, Rough Guides also grabs a quote from Vancouver-based @ToursByLocals on Twitter, who proclaim while there are “so many beautiful places in the world, but I’m still blown away by our hometown in B.C., Canada.”
Of course, we'll join in with the local pride about beautiful B.C. and Vancouver. Condé Nast's U.S. and U.K. readers also named Vancouver one of the best cities in the world again in 2018. If you landed on this item because you live elsewhere on the map and are planning a trip to Canada, take note: we're also one of the most affordable countries in the world to visit.
