On the Road to Cat Lake in the 2013 GMC Acadia Denali

Welcome to the nineteenth instalment of our "On the Road to..." series! The deal is simple: manufacturers loan us vehicles, we drive them to sweet locations, shoot photos along the way and then share that experience with you.

For this latest piece we took GMC's Acadia Denali up the Sea to Sky to Cat Lake, one of my favourite nearby destinations any month of the year. As you can see in the photo, it was raining pretty good.

If you've never been, Cat Lake is just a few minutes past Squamish on the Sea to Sky. Pass the exit to Alice Lake Provincial Park and the turnoff to Cat Lake is just a little bit up on the right hand side.

Once you arrive you'll park in the parking lot and walk in to the lake, which you can almost see through the trees. During the summer it's a fantastic place to camp, if you're keen on tenting it. PRO TIP: camp on the weekdays to avoid rowdy weekend campers, as they can be plentiful.

Not surprisingly there was nobody camped when we visited. In fact, we were the only people for miles. I've thrown a fishing line off of this dock about a hundred times but this day was meant for a quick, rainy walk.

The ghosts of summer still haunt the place, even in the winter months!

So back to the vehicle that kept us dry for most of our adventure. In GM's lineup this Acadia, the Buick Enclave and the Chevy Traverse are what's known as their "Big 3". Technically speaking they're "full size crossovers" but seeing as I'm not a traditional car writer (I'm not a car writer at all) I like to refer to these as "the big, comfy SUVs". In MY FEATURE on the Enclave I said it's aptly named as it's like it's own cozy little country, in my MY FEATURE on the Traverse I said features of it were "Goldilocks just right". It's been an absolute joy to drive these three as their size has been trumped only by their features and luxury inside. The funny thing is that the only downside that I've found is the same upside I'm celebrating here; my family is only 3 members deep so 4 of the 7 seats are entirely wasted on us.
