The Canada Is Awesome network has websites and social media extensions in Vancouver, Whistler, Calgary and Toronto, with many more on the horizon. Our goal is simple: we let people know about all of the awesome things that make their Canadian cities great, despite the bad. I'm the founder of this network and each week in this What's Awesome post I bring you the top stories from each of our properties, giving you access to the best of our content all in one place.

CALGARY

Taste of #yyc’s Chinatown

Calgary’s Chinatown may be smaller than other cities, but it is vibrant and resilient. One of the harder-hit neighbourhoods in the 2013 floods, Chinatown is bouncing back. Now’s a great time to take a wander through this community and support some local businesses. One of the things that Chinatown is known for is the food: the noodles, the buns, the bubble tea! Even though Chinatown only takes up a few blocks in radius, it is jam-packed with tons of things to see and eat! It’s time for a taste of Chinatown.

TORONTO

Print Matters: House of Anansi Celebrates 2014 as the Year of Reading Women

Toronto publishing company House of Anansi has a really cool contest going on to celebrate 2014 as being the year of reading women. The winner will receive every book that House of Anansi published in 2014 that was written by a women. There are a ton of great reads here. To enter the contest one must watch a video and list all the writers pictured in the video. You are allowed to use the internet to find their names. The person with the best list has the highest chance to win.

VANCOUVER

La Vida Local: Twice on Sundays

In a back room in the heart of Chinatown is ramen so good, they have to serve it twice. Twice On Sundays is a pop-up noodle bar by a talented duo, Rhemo and Patrick. They’ve taken their love for ramen and “other snacky stuff that goes great with it” and offered a unique and memorable dining experience. I was first tipped off by email from VIA reader, Sara, who recommended the spot. I took a quick glance at their site and made reservations for their first seating the upcoming Sunday at 5:30pm.
