The Canada Is Awesome network has websites and social media extensions in Vancouver, Squamish, Calgary and Toronto, with many more on the horizon. Our goal is simple: we let people know about all of the awesome things that make their Canadian cities great, despite the bad. I'm the founder of this network and each week in this What's Awesome post I bring you the top stories from each of our properties, giving you access to the best of our content all in one place.

CALGARY

Calgary Stampede 2014 – Midway Deep Fried Dining

It’s the Halfway point, and who knows how many pancakes and sausages have been consumed. But as much food as there is out of the Stampede, the foods IN the Stampede have been known to explore some of the wildest ideas from the Texas State Fair where all deep-fried madness originates.

SQUAMISH

Made in Squamish: 7Mesh

Something pretty awesome is brewing at the Squamish headquarters of the soon-to-be-launched 7mesh Industries, a technical bike apparel collection of highly evolved outerwear and essentials for adventure-focused road and mountain cyclists. The collection, which will debut at this year’s Eurobike and Interbike, was designed by a team of Arc’teryx and Assos veterans and inspired by the classic Squamish landscape.

TORONTO

VANCOUVER

Somewhere Over the Sandman Rainbow

You might’ve noticed this 55-foot rainbow this week and wondered what was happening. Well, what’s happening is that this company is proudly flying the flag of inclusion. “We are proud to call this community our home and want to illustrate our pride by painting the iconic rainbow crowned on-top of our hotel,” said Valentina Tang, General Manager of Sandman Suites Vancouver – Davie Street, in a press release.
