Here's how to save hundreds on direct, round-trip flights from Vancouver to Sydney, Australia

We can all say "G'day" to a good flight deal.
Find out how to get direct flights from Vancouver to Sydney, Australia at a steal thanks to a sale from Qantas.

Travellers can take advantage of reduced prices on direct flights from Vancouver to Sydney, Australia this week.

Whether you’ve ever wanted to watch a troop of kangaroos hop across the outback, or you simply want to enjoy the view from the iconic Sydney Opera House, The Land Down Under offers endless things to see and do.

Australia's national airline, Qantas, launched its "Come & Say G’Day to Australia” sale on Tuesday, Oct. 31, which applies to several flights across its network and runs until Monday, Nov. 6.

Economy tickets for direct, round-trip flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Sydney International Airport (SYD) start at $1,499, with fares for Premium Economy and Business class starting at $3,199 and $6,299, respectively.

For example, a flight that departs from Vancouver on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, and returns a week later on Monday, Feb. 26 costs $1,499 including all taxes and fees.

Adding stopovers on flights from Vancouver to Sydney, Australia

The sale doesn't specify any "blackout dates" but Qantas notes that "discounts vary from route to route" and on "selected travel dates."

A quick scroll through the Google Flights price calendar highlights the drastic variation of prices, with most of the appealing fares starting to take off in February 2024. That said, there are some more attractive ticket prices before then, too.

An economy Qantas ticket from YVR to SYD allows one free stopover and a second for $100 (additional charges and taxes may be payable). If you want to include a stopover, you can enjoy these relaxed rules in Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Auckland.

Have your sights set on the Aloha State? Hawaiian stopovers are permitted in Honolulu, but they cost slightly more, at $200.

Try to nail down your travel dates ahead of travel because Economy tickets are nonrefundable and changes cost $500 plus any applicable taxes and fare differences.

You should always purchase a comprehensive travel insurance policy when you book your ticket, which will cover the cost of your ticket in case you can't leave due to an unforeseeable medical or other emergency reason. It will also cover incidents like missed connections, baggage interruption and loss, and more.

This month, Qantas increased its frequency on the JFK-SYD route, rising from three to four flights weekly.

Qantas' codeshare partnership with WestJet and American Airlines also offers connections from destinations across Canada.
