On Wednesday, January 2, Environment Canada warned that a major winter storm would hit some major B.C. highways as an intense Pacific frontal system moved across the south.

Now, Highway 1 is closed in both directions between Revelstoke and Golden due to avalanche risk. The Rogers Pass stretch was closed early Thursday morning and is estimated to remain closed until approximately 8 pm.

What's more, Environment Canada advises that snowfall will continue through today and tonight giving further snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm except up to 50 cm over Rogers Pass.

As a result of the weather in the mountains, driving conditions may suddenly become hazardous. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
