The Big Star Sandwich chain has thrown open the doors of its first store in Richmond, after wowing customers in cities such as Burnaby, Surrey, Langley and Maple Ridge.

“The chain is very famous mainland-wide because how we do our meat,” said Stevo Bursac, owner of the Richmond location.

“We cook our beef overnight for 17 hours, on a 350 degree slow cook, and the turkey is cooked for seven hours overnight. They are all pulled by hand, so nothing is cut.

“We don’t use processed meat. Everything is nice and tasty, and we have a number of choices of nice sauces.”

Bursac, a Richmondite who just returned from living in Europe, said he has been tracking the franchise since it started in 2013 and always wanted to open one in Richmond.

Since the restaurant first fired up its ovens and started serving Richmondites two weeks ago, it has been inundated, according to Bursac.

“The price is also really good. For a six-inch sandwich, which is huge, you pay $8.99,” he said.

“We are mostly offering lunch for now. In the future, we will look in to doing breakfast, which I believe will be very popular.”

Big Star Sandwich at 11331 Coppersmith Way is open from 11-6 on weekdays and 11-5 on Saturdays.
