A petition is gaining traction, calling for the resumed search of a missing Vancouver software developer who is believed to have gone hiking in Manning Provincial Park and never returned.

More than 28,000 signatures have urged the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) search and rescue team to redeploy resources to help locate the recent UBC grad.

Jordan Naterer, 27, was last seen on Oct. 10.

It's believed he was carrying a large olive-green backpack and was wearing white runners. His car was found at a trailhead, sparking an extensive search that failed to locate him.

On Oct. 17, the hiker's family was notified by the VPD that their teams exhausted all search options and made the difficult decision to suspend the hunt.

Now, four days later, calls for action have come from as high up as the Newfoundland Legislature, in the province where Naterer was born.

During question period Wednesday, the leader of the official opposition, Ches Crosbie, urged the government house leader to call for a resumption of the search.

"Concerns have been raised that the search was called off too soon and clues have surfaced," Crosbie stressed.

The new evidence includes the discovery of Naterer’s hat and glasses Sunday on Frosty Peak trail, according to father Greg.

The family and a growing list of petitioners are hoping such evidence will motivate the VPD's specialized teams, and other search and rescue volunteers, to revive their efforts.

On Wednesday, VPD Cst. Tania Visintin said there is a possibility the agency will resume its search Thursday, with the use of a drone.
