An example of what BRIGHT Downtown will look like.

For one week, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver will light up in a new and intriguing way.

The famed hotel will be hit with artistic projection mapping and animations from 6 to 10 p.m. nightly from March 6 to 12.

BRIGHT Downtown is an art installation organized by the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (DVBIA), who hope to brighten a normally dreary part of the year in Vancouver.

"The intent of the project is to bring joyful and bright imagery to downtown that will 'Light Up Your Night' – helping to create a positive and up-lifting feeling for the year ahead," writes the DVBIA on their website.

The theme of the animations and art will be "Tangled" and will explore art and community and how the two are woven together.

The hotel's east facade will play the role of screen for the projections, and a viewing gallery will be set up in šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énk Square (North Plaza of the Vancouver Art Gallery).

Shows will run every 30 minutes for 15 minutes each and are free for the public to watch.

"BRIGHT Downtown is a new and safe way to experience artwork in an outdoor setting," states the DVBIA.
