The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is asking for the public's assistance to help further its investigation of the shooting death of a man at his residence in the Morgan Heights neighbourhood of Surrey, B.C.

On Jan. 6, just after 5 a.m., 24-year-old Gary Kang was shot several times at his home near 161 Street and 30 Avenue. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police respond to a car fire near 229 Street and 78A Avenue at 5:41 a.m. Investigators are working to determine if there is a connection between this and the earlier Surrey homicide.

It is believed there is more than one suspect involved in the shooting.

IHIT investigators are requesting dash cam video from drivers who travelled around the Morgan Heights area of Surrey and/or the area of Langley around 232 Street and Highway 1 between 5 a.m. and 5:40 a.m.

Kang was known to police and his murder is believed to be a targeted event with linkages to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.

“It is too early to offer a motive behind this morning’s shooting but given what we know of Kang’s history with gang activity, we will be engaging with our gang enforcement partners,” says Sergeant Frank Jang of IHIT.
