Vancouver's street art game has always been pretty strong, but there's no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has taken it to the next level.
With colourful murals popping up on boarded-up storefronts across the city, the inspiring artwork brought a much-needed dose of cheer to the city's quieter-than-usual streets.
But as B.C. heads into Phase 3 of its restart plan and local businesses continue to reopen their doors, two brand-new murals are now brightening up Yaletown's Hamilton Street.
These works aren't temporarily covering up a sheet of plywood, either. Painted by a pair of local artists, these creations now decorate what were once boring, concrete steps, as part of the Yaletown Business Improvement Association's recently-launched staircase art project.
If you're in the neighbourhood, keep an eye out for the giant dog painted by Lukas Lundberg, a Vancouver painter and FX artist. (You might recognize some of Lundberg's other impressive murals that could be seen decorating storefronts in Gastown over the past few months)
Meanwhile, another staircase one block away proudly displays Talavera, a stunning patterned mural. Painted by Ari De La Mora, a Mexican figurative artist based here in Vancouver, this piece was inspired by the traditional Mexican craft of the same name, typically seen on pottery and tiles.
