The Peace Arch border crossing re-opened to travellers entering Canada early Friday morning following a deadly crash that claimed one life on Thursday.

The busy border crossing was shut down following a fiery crash involving a Porsche SUV that crashed into a Toyota van. The collision set off a fire in the van.

A male driver was the sole occupant of the van. He was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the SUV was being transported to hospital with injuries that aren’t considered life threatening.

Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) indicated they were investigating Thursday, however authorities are also working to determine if the Porsche was attempting to run the border into Canada.

Southbound traffic into the U.S. at Blaine was allowed to resume travel Thursday afternoon.

Video from the scene shared to social media show the scope of the incident.
