Massive power outage in City of Vancouver caused by fallen tree

Crews are heading to an outage caused by the powerful windstorm in Vancouver that is affecting 556 BC Hydro customers.

BC Hydro's outage list notes that the power has been off since 12:50 p.m in an area north of 75th Ave, west of Wiltshire St, east of Macdonald St, and South of 45th Ave. It states that a tree has fallen down across its wires, and that crew are en route to fix it.

Powerful northeasterly outflow winds with gusts up to 90 km/h have developed over the western and central Fraser Valley as well as the southeast sections of Metro Vancouver including Surrey and Langley.

As of 2 p.m. on Nov. 27, there are 52 outages listed on BC Hydro affecting 7,238 customers in the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast.

BC Hydro states that any fallen or damaged power line should be considered an emergency. Stay at least 10 metres back and call 9-1-1 immediately.
