We've seen our fair share of it raining cats and dogs lately in Vancouver (and we mean real rain, not just the latest special exhibit over at Science World). But how about it raining rocks?

That's exactly how some people described a scene in Vancouver which halted rush hour traffic at West Georgia and Hornby streets in downtown on Monday evening.

The City of Vancouver confirmed a water main break at the location, which is in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

As water the erupted, tiny rocks rained down, witnesses reported, adding the water sprayed several storeys into the air.

Crews were dispatched to the site. After working through the night, the break has been repaired, however the City of Vancouver notes that two lanes of West Georgia Street eastbound between Hornby and Howe will be closed till mid-morning Tuesday for pavement repair.
