Two people were sent to hospital after a collision sent a taxi crashing into a downtown Vancouver clothing store late Thursday night.
Const. Tania Visintin, VPD media relations officer, tells Vancouver Is Awesome that the incident took place after 11:30 p.m. near Georgia and Seymour streets.
Visintin notes that a car and a taxi were involved in the collision, and that the taxi crashed into the front window of a store. The taxi driver and the driver of the other vehicle were not seriously injured, but the two passengers in the taxi were taken to hospital.
"We can't provide any additional information at this time since the incident is still under investigation," notes Visintin. "With that in mind, we can say that drugs and alcohol were not a factor."
Located at 595 Georgia Steet, Sasso Moda specializes in Italian and European fashions for men and women. V.I.A. spoke to one of the store's owners, who preferred not to disclose his last name, about the condition of the store Friday morning.
"We thank god that no one got hurt," said Bob. "If this had happened during the day, for sure someone could have been hurt or even killed."
While no one was injured, Bob remarks that the store has incurred major damage. He describes how the floor is covered in glass, and that they are working on putting boards where the windows were.
"We hope to be able to open later today but we have a lot of work to do - it looks like the store was hit with a missile."
Bob adds that they plan to re-open as soon as possible and that that they have received an outpouring of support from the community.
