Winter weather is walloping Highway 3 in the Kootenays.

Environment Canada says another 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected to fall on the Kootenay Pass, in addition to the 10 to 15 cm that has already accumulated.

“A moist Pacific frontal system is moving through the Southern Interior,” Environment Canada’s weather alert says, adding the freezing level is currently around 1,200 metres.

“The snow levels will rise to be above the Kootenay Pass summit after midnight tonight at which time the snow will switch over to rain,” the alert continues.
