Metro Vancouverites will experience some warmer-than-average temperatures this weekend, but a heat wave isn't expected.
Environment Canada meteorologist Brian Proctor tells V.I.A. the sun has returned to the Lower Mainland after an "unsettled" week with some rain.
"We are just coming out of that trend as a ridge of high pressure starts building," he explains. "But it's not setting up to be a big blocking condition or heat dome."
Rather than a major heat event, temperatures should start gradually warming heading out of the weekend.
On Friday, Aug. 8, temperatures are expected to average largely around seasonal, with a high of 22 C and a low of 13 C. Saturday's forecast includes similar temperatures, although inland temperatures may reach a high of 26 C, Proctor notes.
Seven-day Metro Vancouver weather forecast
On Sunday, temperatures will climb a few degrees, with highs around 25 C on the coast and up to 30 C inland, with clear skies and sunshine. Monday's forecast includes similar conditions and temperatures.
Some clouds may start to roll into the region starting Tuesday, although temperatures will remain above the seasonal average.
When asked if some rainfall is expected anytime soon, Proctor noted that "unsettled conditions are expected toward the end of the work week," but no precipitation is in the cards.
"The summer has been dominated by lots of transitory systems rather than major weather events," he commented.
Locals should continue to wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and seek shade during peak sunshine hours.
