Metro Vancouver's weather forecast has shifted favourably for folks looking to enjoy some sunshine over the long weekend.
Previously, some showers were expected to put a minor damper on weekend plans. However, the wet weather isn't expected to emerge until early to mid-next week, meaning you can enjoy time at the beach, on trails, or in parks without any raindrops.
But Environment Canada Meteorologist Matt Loney tells V.I.A. the "worst of the heat is past," meaning that oppressive heat won't accompany the pleasant, sunny days.
Saturday, Aug. 2, through the Monday B.C. Day holiday, looks mostly sunny, with highs around 21 C to 23 and overnight lows around 14 C expected at the weather department's main station at Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
"It will feel summery this weekend, but it won't be as hot," he notes.
Seven-day Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes some wet conditions
The sunny streak isn't expected to last beyond the long weekend in the seven-day forecast. "We are in a nice pattern with inland temperatures higher than coast, but we have a decent chance for showers heading into next week," he explains.
"The pattern shifts as a trough moves in."
Showery conditions are expected to commence around Tuesday and persist through the week, although one of the days may feature a more organized rainstorm with heavier precipitation.
Heading into next weekend, a ridge of high pressure should produce clear conditions with hotter temperatures.
Folks headed out of Metro Vancouver may encounter poor air quality in several parts of the province due to new wildfires started by lightning, including the Fraser Canyon and the Cariboo Region. Loney advises locals to check provincial forecasts and air quality reports before embarking on a trip.
