DiYVR: Dude, that's a lot of handmade inventory.

Last weekend I spent the day at the Canzine West zine fair in Gastown. I'm not a zinester, though I do love handmade publications. I was there to work my friend Andrea 's crafts table because she had another obligation.

Last weekend I spent the day at the Canzine West zine fair in Gastown. I'm not a zinester, though I do love handmade publications. I was there to work my friend Andrea's crafts table because she had another obligation. There was a mini Got Craft? craft fair as part of Canzine, see. Indie publishing and crafts go hand in hand.

I don't make crafts to sell, so this was my first experience on the other side of the craft-fair table. I thought I already appreciated handmade goods, but man, I appreciate them even more now. Do you know how much inventory a seller needs to prepare for a six-hour craft fair? A LOT of inventory.

As the holiday craft-fair season is practically upon us, I don't think I'll be able to shop and not think about all the products vendors have made that are sitting underneath their table, or stacked in boxes in their apartment.

Which brings me to my post for next week. It'll be a roundup of craft fairs coming up in November. They're a great opportunity to buy products directly from the people who make them. Think there's a fair I haven't heard about? Let me know! Also let me know if there's something going on in town related to hand-making stuff that you think should be featured right here.

PS You seemed to enjoy last week's roundup of what people are making around town. I enjoyed it, too. The next one will be in early November. Follow me and Vancouver is Awesome on Twitter so you'll be sure not to miss your chance to be featured!

PPS I promise I'll have my act together with meatier, prettier, more earth-shattering features. Very very soon!
